Mobius made from the Harry Potter Advent Calendar Art Yarns

I was very happy to chat with Katie yesterday, who purchased one of last year's Harry Potter Art Yarn Advent Calendars, and who told me she had crocheted a mobius from all these mini skeins. She sent photos and kindly allowed me to post them here, so here we go:

At first I thought to post only a selection, but I loved to see the details in all of them, and I thought you might, too :-) I absolutely love the finished piece, and as I said to her yesterday, I think it's amazing how different things made from the same yarns can be. So exciting to see!

Katie also told me she took a photo of each day's yarn in front of a Pottermore picture showing the respective scene. I thought this was such a fantastic idea! She put these photos on her Ravelry page and gave me permission to post some of them here, as well - if you'd like to see them all, have a look at Katie's mobius on Ravelry!

Diagon Alley

Hogwarts Express

Severus Snape

You can find Katie on Ravelry, and she also has an Etsy shop where she sells really beautiful crocheted pieces - like the Saoirse The Selkie mobius, or the Robot Friends mobius (made from one of my yarns! :-))

Thank you for sharing all these lovely pictures, Katie! <3 br="">

Knitted Art Yarns: Frozen-themed & Harry Potter Art Yarn Advent Calendar

Helloooo, and happy new year, dear friends! :-)

I have new, wonderful photos to show to you. Look at what Max made from two icy art yarns (Ice Princess and a custom yarn inspired by Elsa from Frozen) and from the whole Harry Potter art yarn advent calendar!

Max knitted beautiful Ice Princess sleeves and an Elsa shrug for her two daughters who were very taken with the movie Frozen:

Max and her older daughter shared the Harry Potter art yarn advent calendar and made this absolutely fantastic scarf from the whole calendar:

Thank you for all the lovely photos, Max! I enjoyed looking through them immensely, and I am so glad you and Iris had fun with the advent calendar :-)

Adorable Sweater from Harry Potter Yarn

I am a bit shocked I haven't posted anything in such a long time... I have taken to using Facebook when I post just a picture and not much text - if you're interested in that sort of thing, please come join us! :-) I hadn't realized how much time had gone by since I last blogged, though.

Today I have something special: I just received pictures of a child's sweater from a dear customer. She has used mostly Hoggy Warty Howarts, as far as I can see, with a border of Dragon's Fire. I meant to check with her, but I have an unexpected opening for blogging in my schedule right now, so guessing will have to do. Without further ado, here are the photos Mel kindly allowed me to share with you:

Isn't that just fantastic? So cute, and so cleverly combined. As some of you may know, I mostly spin and only knit rarely (and slowly), and I am always amazed to see how my yarns look knitted up (or crocheted, or woven, for that matter!). The stripes in house colours have turned out really great, don't you think?

I'll post pictures of the yarns, too, as I think the comparison is interesting, not only for those who have never worked with art yarn and would like to see before and after pictures, so to speak.

Addendum: Mel informed me she also used Merlin's Beard for the sweater - here's a photo:

Thank you for sharing the pictures, Mel - I am still delighted! And I hope to blog a bit more often in the future, though I have mostly pictures to show.

Eleven. Doctor Who Inspired Yarns and Mitts

I wrote about shrinking TARDISes a while back, and the plan to spin an art yarn inspired by Matt Smith's Eleventh Doctor. My customer decided against a yarn full of TARDISes and asked me to incorporate charms relating to the eleventh Doctor and London/England in general, and only one TARDIS.

I did both, as I was so curious myself how the yarn would turn out and how the TARDISes would look in it that I spun an all-TARDIS yarn before all the charms arrived for the custom order. Here are both of them:

Raggedy Doctor

Eleven

This one contains one shrinky dink TARDIS, and one of each of the following charms: Cowboy hat, cup of tea, teabag, apple, Union Jack, double decker bus, Big Ben, vampire teeth, soccer bead, snowflake, whale, angel wing.

Now look what my customer Jane made from the second yarn: Eleventh Doctor Mitts!

Aren't they wonderful? Thank you for sharing these pictures, Jane! :-)

News from Westeros ;-)

Some of you might remember my blog post about the series "A Song of Ice and Fire"/"Game of Thrones", and the yarn I spun based on it. Well, it's been bought, and transformed into a wonderful neck piece, which I'd like to show you, of course :-)

  Winter is Coming

Pam knitted up the whole skein of 257 m / 110 g (14-18 WPI) on 4mm needles. She used the free pattern Elanor, and here's the outcome:

Isn't it beautiful? I really love how it turned out, and I think the pattern was a great choice for the yarn :-) Thank you for sharing, Pam!

Meet Anna! :-)

Anna's alpacas Galax and My
A while ago we got a message from a very friendly knitter from Sweden who - apart from flattering us very much indeed - told us she had alpacas. This really got my attention, as well as the small and beautiful word Sweden ;-) I just love Scandinavia, and I took Swedish classes a while back, and with these things and the fact that Anna described herself as crazy about yarn and knitting we had something to talk about :-) Turns out we are interested in similar things, like mythology, Star Trek and Harry Potter, and there were some long letters going back and forth. I asked her whether she had a blog, for I'd love to follow someone who wrote about alpacas and knitting, even if it was in Swedish (I have forgotten nearly everything from my classes), as long as there were pictures ;-) Anna told me she had actually thought about writing a blog, and now she felt was the time to get going. I promised to tell you about it, so she could get some readers (and at-picture-lookers ;-)) - so here I go:

Please stop by Annas aviga maskor :-)

I've rediscovered google translate in the process, so now the Swedish isn't too much of a problem, and also the google translations turn out to be quite hilarious at times (yeah, it's still a machine, and for that it's pretty good). Just give it a try if you like creative stuff and alpacas!

Anna has also kindly sent me pictures of the cowl she made from our Dark Secrets art yarn, which can be worn in more than one way:

I love the versatility of this piece, and also this was one of the yarns I thought twice about putting in the shop, so naturally I like how it turned out as well :-)
Thank you for sharing, Anna!

More Hats!

Sheila Harden has made two more wonderful hats from our art yarns! I especially like the design of the green one, it's so creative and I like the different kinds of texture!

 Dolores Umbridge

You can find this hat in Sheila's Etsy shop, right here :-) There are more pictures, too!

Winter Delight

The green and white part in the back is made from our yarn. You can find more pictures in the actual listing - there's also one that shows our yarn beautifully :-)

Thank you for sharing the pictures, Sheila! :-)

How Ron's Dressrobes Turned into a Hat

You might wonder, was it magic? One could certainly think so! ;-) The magic used is called crochet, and the one who performed it was Kyuubi No Kitsune. Thank you for sharing the photos with us and our readers :-)

Ron's Dress Robes

The yarn, as it was listed in our shop. Maroon, with bits of lace, just as described in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

 The hat it became...

...which features a neat steampunk button :-) Great idea, I think!

The Fairy Ring Hat

Sheila of Fun Funky Fibres bought our Fairy Ring art yarn...

...and made this gorgeous hat from it:

She tells me she loved it so much she couldn't give it away, and she wore it all through the holidays. Now, that does make this spinner happy :-)

Advent Calendar made from Art Yarn

I've seen many beautiful things made from art yarn, but I'd never seen art yarn made into an Advent calendar before one of our customers had the idea, ordered one of our Christmas art yarns and made the most beautiful calender from it :-) Let me show you!

Here is the art yarn Maria used:

Deck the Halls

The yarn was 129 m (141 yards) / 91 g (3,21 oz) / about 9-15 WPI, and Maria combined it with Louisa Harding Grace Silk&Wool #1 (Ecru) and #16 (Cranberry) to knit 24 wonderful little bags:

(it should be possible to click & enlarge - there's lots of detail :-))

Isn't this amazing? And now there's lots of time to plan and make one for next year ;-) (There is even one Christmas art yarn left in our shop, if you're interested)

I think the idea is genius, and Maria tells me her daughter really enjoyed opening the cute little bags each day - who wouldn't, though??

Maria, thank you so much for taking such wonderful pictures, and for allowing us to use them! :-)

What Became of...?

A few days ago, we received an email which made us very happy: Max, who bought Twisted's Hawaiian Summer Party art yarn, sent us some pictures of what she made from the yarn, and kindly allowed us to share them with you all :-)

Here's a picture of the yarn, a beautiful corespun with 102 m (112 yards) / 106 g (3,74 oz) / 6-8 WPI

Max knitted it into a stunning hat for her daughter, who was actually the one to pick the yarn when she and Max browsed our shop:

Such beauties, both the hat and the girl! :-)

If you're interested, the pattern is the Rikke Hat by HappyKnits, and if you're on Ravelry, you can see more photos and details on the project here.

Max, thank you so much for sharing this, and for allowing us to share the photos with our readers! You made us very happy once again :-) And please do tell your daughter she looks fantastic and has great taste!

The Green Lady

Our good friend and customer Pam of MagdaleneKnits has crocheted a stunning set of beautiful scarf and wrist warmers using the Green Lady art yarn we blogged about some time ago. We'd like to share pictures, of course :-)

This beautiful set is still available in Pam's shop, and you can also find all the details there.
Thank you so much again, Pam!
