Too Bad

I am -again- faced with weather too bad for good yarn photos. I finished the Welcome to Divination yarn the day I posted the picture, but I haven't been able to take photos and list the yarn. Of 22 photos I could only use this one, which is not really good enough, either, but which will at least give you an idea of how the yarn looks:

I do hope I'll be able to take good pictures soon, so this beauty can be listed :-) I'm currently working on a glittering Professor Trelawney yarn, by the way, so the Potter madness doesn't end here ;-)

So Many Ideas

I've not even spun up all the batts I carded the other day and I have already got so many ideas for new yarns, I can hardly keep up ;-)

I've been wanting to spin some more Harry Potter inspired yarns (I must have listened to the audio books about 20 to 30 times so far, I always start from the beginning when I'm through with book 7 - do feel free to call me crazy ;-)) and I like my new ideas: I plan to spin a Trelawny yarn and since the descriptions of the first divination lesson offer so much I will also spin a "Welcome to Divination" yarn, the materials for which I've just assembled:

The room is described as lit with a crimson light, the lamps draped with red scarves (hence the colours I chose), the students sit in chintz arm chairs and on fat poufs which I imagine as somewhat furry or fuzzy (so I chose eyelash yarn and mohair curls as add-ins), and the shelves are filled with feathers and crystal balls, among other things (I found some real feathers and rock crystal beads). I don't have any tea cup charms, but I chose some metal leave charms alluding to the tea leaves we can read quite a lot about.

And now excuse me, I have to start spinning ;-)

A Personal Note

I'd been meaning to be busy with shop and blog, to spin and list more yarns and show you what I was up to, but other things got in the way. My cat was badly injured by three large dogs on the 10th of March and we didn't know whether she would survive. Considering her a family member, I was very down and needed time for her, and I wasn't able to do anything productive. She's recovering now, thank goodness, though it will still be weeks until she can walk again properly.
Now that she's out of danger, however, I am pleased to inform you that I'm back on my feet and, more importantly, back at my spinning wheel :-)

Thanks to everyone who commented on our giveaway posting so far, by the way - we're really looking forward to doing the drawing!

Anniversary Special - Art Yarn Giveaway

We've already mentioned we were planning to host a giveaway in honour of our second shop anniversary - and we've finally finished the art yarn we spun specially for this occasion:

Spring Wedding

127 m/74 g, about 9-12 WPI.
This yarn has been spun from our own hand blended fibre mix containing merino wool and wool/silk blend of light green, naturally white Bluefaced Leicester wool, shiny white mulberry silk and tencel, naturally white merino wool and sparkling angelina. We've spun in a golden metallic thread strung with white (faux) pearls and fabric roses.

Now, this is what you'll have to do in order to win this gorgeous skein of beautiful hand spun art yarn: just comment* on this post during the current month and leave a means to notify you, and you will be entered into our lottery. It's completely free, you don't even have to pay any shipping costs, we'll cover them for you!
We'll do the drawing at the beginning of April, so that gives you lots of time to comment.
Good luck!

*if you feel like it, do tell us what you do in the fibre related area, how you found us, whether you've worked with handspun before or are a spinner yourself, and whatever else you like to tell us about you - we're curious to learn more about fibre/yarn addicts like us ;-)

Anniversary Special - Win this Yarn!

As related, we're celebrating our second shop anniversary this month. As a special for our customers we'll be having a prize drawing with those of you who buy yarn from us during March 2010. And here's what you can win:

Snowy Toadstool

This exceptional art yarn has been spun from our own hand blended fibre mix of naturally white Bluefaced Leicester wool, white merino wool, bright red wool/silk blend, shiny white mulberry silk, a small amount of red and white linen for a more interesting haptic quality, and sparkling red angelina. An iridescent thread strung with red (faux) pearls has been spun in, as well as strips of gorgeous red net lace with sequins. Wooden beads of red with white dots have been added and the yarn has been spun using different techniques, so there's a lot to see and the texture varies in beautiful ways.

If you win, you'll get the full skein of 173 m/144 g! All you have to do is buy yarn from Weird&Twisted during the current month to enter the lottery - and all you need after that is a bit of good luck.
